Who am I and Why Am I Here?
Hi! Thank you for being here. If you found this site, you must have some interest in improving your diet and health in some manner. I am here to help.
My name is Rose. The RSS in my business name stands for two things- Rose Sharon Spector, my name, and Real Simple and Sane, my philosophy. Real Simple and Sane is how I believe dieting should be. There are a lot of diets out there- visit any bookstore or library and you will see shelves upon shelves of books purporting to contain the secret to the best diet. If you just follow their rules- eat what it says to eat, and don’t eat what it deems bad- you will magically and forever lose the weight. There are all sorts of diets out there- Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Atkins, Keto, Paleo, and Whole 30- just to name a few. They all have their rules and restrictions. They will work in the short term but who wants to feel miserable forever? Can you honestly say that you will never eat another sweet? As soon as you lose the weight you want, you will go back to eating the foods that make you happy. There is a good chance that you will gain back the weight and more. It doesn’t have to be that way. You can eat the foods that you love and still lose the weight that you want.
These are the keys to my plan:
Keep it real, keep it simple, and keep it sane.
By keeping it real, I mean that you will be able to eat real food, cooked how you like it. You will not be required to buy any supplements or eat any strange combinations of foods. There will be no lemon with cayenne pepper and honey unless, of course, you like that combination.
Keep it simple-I don’t believe that dieting should be difficult. You can eat all of your favorite foods and still lose weight. I believe in the 80/20 Rule. This states that 80% of your calories should come from nutrient-dense foods while 20% of the calories can come from less nutrient dense foods (otherwise known as treats or junk food). I believe that 100% of your calories should come from foods that you love. I will never insist that you eat something because it is in vogue. If you don’t like kale or celery juice, you do not have to have it as part of your diet. If you like ice cream or chocolate (or any other treat), I will help you figure out how to fit it into your plan. The key to my plan is to help you figure out how many calories and how much protein you need to safely lose weight.
Keep it sane- I will never require anything crazy. We will work together to develop a plan that will work for you and I will help you develop the habits that you need in order for this to be a sustainable plan.
Weight loss is simple but it is not easy. It takes a lot of work and a lot of patience but weight loss can be sustainable.
I have laid the rules out in the paragraphs above. It can be summed up as Eat only foods you love, not too much, mostly healthy. (Thanks to Michael Pollan who inspired this.)
There will be days that go perfectly and others that will go not so well and that is OK. In addition, the scale will do funky things and will not move as quickly or as much as you expect it to. That too is OK. The weight will come off if you have the patience to stick with the program for the long term. I am here to help.
